Elizabeth March is a young woman who lives in the small town of Wakakusa. She is a kind and gentle soul, but she is also very shy. She spends most of her time alone, reading books or knitting.
One day, Elizabeth is walking through the forest when she comes across a strange creature. The creature is small and furry, with big eyes and a long tail. Elizabeth has never seen anything like it before.
The creature introduces itself as "Mushi-shi." He tells Elizabeth that he is a spirit who lives in the forest. He says that he has been watching Elizabeth, and he knows that she is a kind and gentle person. He asks Elizabeth if she would like to be his friend.
Elizabeth is hesitant at first, but she eventually agrees to be Mushi-shi's friend. Mushi-shi tells Elizabeth that he will teach her about the forest and the creatures that live there. He also tells her that he will help her to find her way in life.
